The feedback loop. Giving feedback to students happens all the time, some more intentional than others. The use of exit cards, pre-assessments, formative task sheets, summatives and conferencing. These all can articulate how students are meeting learning targets at particular time. Each having a purpose and time when most effective. I have been using exit cards and and formative assessments to help me design lessons moving forward and to set the pace of instruction for the class and individual students. Standards Based tracking is fairly new to our school and for me. After a few years I feel much more comfortable with it. It starts with philosophy. Now that we are standards based we can separate habits of learning from the learning standards in our curriculum. The current use of JumpRope software system has made tracking standards much easier. I can now load learning targets into an assessment and track students in real time on my iPad while they perform tasks in class. Progress can be tracked more effectively as I have more data points to see the progress.
